Chris Paine

Director of the documentary film "The Revenge of the Electric Car"

Chris is a film director and environmental activist living in Los Angeles California. Chris’s film, Who Killed the Electric Car? premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 before its release by Sony Pictures Classics. The film won numerous awards and screened around the world to become one of the most successful documentaries of the year.

Chris served as executive producer on Faster (2001) narrated by Ewan McGregor about the world’s fastest motorcycle race, and No Maps For These Territories featuring U2’s Bono about cyberpunk author, William Gibson. Chris assisted writer/producer Michael Tolkin on the feature films The Player and The New Age. He is currently working on Revenge of the Electric Car.

On the technology front, Chris’s 1994 Los Angeles based company, Internet Outfitters went public as AppNet in 1999. His prior San Rafael based company, Mondo-tronics, provided robotic materials for the Mars Pathfinder mission. Chris studied film at Stanford and NYU, acting with Sanford Meisner, and international relations at Colgate University (BA, 1983). Television appearances include The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (2006), Sundance’s The Green (2007), and as correspondent for The G Word, Discovery Green Channel (2008).
